The Old Dominion University Office of Research is dedicated to supporting the work of faculty researchers across six colleges and numerous research centers in a wide range of funded research sponsored by federal agencies, the state and industry. Strategic initiatives include bioelectrics & biomedical research, coastal resilience, cybersecurity, entrepreneurism, maritime, modeling & simulation, spaceflight and STEM education.
The office also oversees research grant development services, research compliance, and commercialization.

Cybersecurity
At ODU, cybersecurity research takes a cross-disciplinary approach, addressing applications that range from critical infrastructure systems to deliberate attacks from hostile entities.
Maritime
ODU is situated adjacent to one of the world's most significant ports. Partnerships are focused on workforce innovation, training, supply chain logistics and modeling & simulation.
Modeling & Simulation
Across multiple disciplines, ODU researchers build models, simulations, and visualizations to understand the future and its uncertainties.
Spaceflight & Autonomous Systems
ODU is helping to catalyze the unique opportunities in Virginia for commercial spaceflight, autonomous systems and the sensors they carry for data collection.
Resilience
Our faculty are addressing resiliency challenges now and in the future - from climate change and sea level rise adaptation to health and community resilience.
Bioelectrics & Biomedical Research
Bioelectric and biomedical researchers draw from an interdisciplinary foundation to undertake basic and translational research.

Our faculty and staff partner with school systems and communities to support unique educational programming and research through two centers.

Research grant administration is conducted by the Old Dominion University Research Foundation (a separate entity from the university).
